When you rent a roll-off dumpster from PDL Waste Solutions, you are paying for a specific amount of space. If you just walk out your front door and throw garbage bags and old furniture over the side at random, that space is going to fill up incredibly fast.
A lot of homeowners in Madison end up renting a second dumpster simply because they didn’t load the first one correctly. By taking a few extra minutes to plan how you throw things away, you can fit a massive amount of extra debris into your bin and save yourself a lot of money.
Start with the Heavy and Flat Items Think of your dumpster like a giant cardboard moving box. You would never put heavy books on top of fragile glasses. The same rule applies here. Open the heavy-duty swinging door on the back of our roll-off bin and walk your heaviest items inside first.
Lay flat items like old wooden doors, sheets of drywall, or broken table tops completely flat on the metal floor. This creates a solid, even base. If you lean flat items against the outside walls of the dumpster in a “V” shape, you create a giant pocket of empty air in the middle that you cannot fill.
Break Everything Down This is where people waste the most space. Cardboard boxes, old plastic storage bins, and cheap wooden furniture take up a huge amount of volume if you leave them whole. Take a hammer or a pry bar and knock the legs off that old dining table. Stomp your cardboard boxes completely flat. If you have an old dresser, pull the drawers out and fill those empty drawers with smaller pieces of trash before you toss it in.
Fill the Gaps Once you have your heavy furniture and flat items on the bottom, start throwing your standard garbage bags on top. As you build up the pile, look for empty pockets of air between the bulky items. Toss smaller loose items, like old clothes, broken toys, or loose yard debris, directly into those holes.
By packing the dumpster tightly from the floor all the way up to the top edge, you will be amazed at how much clutter you can actually get rid of in a single rental.
